A State of Readiness isn’t a finish line. Most organizations treat “excellence” like a destination — a certification earned, a program declared complete. That’s not readiness. Readiness is attained the moment alignment holds: when effort across the entire enterprise, from the boardroom to the floor, is pointed at pursuing the same strategy — not managing around it, or waiting for it to trickle down.
The gap that actually kills most strategies isn’t a strategy problem. It’s an alignment problem. Leadership decides. The rest of the enterprise is still oriented to last quarter’s priorities, or to none at all. The distance between the decision and the enterprise’s ability to move on it, together, is the real cost of misalignment — and it’s the one competitors can’t see until it’s too late to close.
Closing that gap and achieving operational excellence takes a culture built on continuous, deliberate improvement — and it has to run in two directions. One is company performance. The other is easy to skip: the actual working conditions of the people doing the work. Skip it, and alignment erodes from the inside. Hold both, sustained over time and you will achieve operational excellence — and readiness will follow.

Our primary task is to create leadership and a process for improving the performance of the organization — and the circumstances of those who work there.
On the voyage to Operational Excellence, we typically interface with the Captain, who is responsible for the ship and all souls on board. The one who sets the mission, owns the destination, and bears ultimate accountability for safe passage.
The Officers align to the Captain’s intent and are responsible to communicate the condition of their respective responsibilities and the support they need to be successful in their charges.
